Co. Dublin, Ireland — 17 Feb. 2014 — The distinguished artist, critic, and former Head of Fine Art at NCAD Campbell Bruce HRHA, died this morning. He was a very active member of AICA Ireland, for many years.
Campbell was born in 1927 on the island of St Helena and moved to England in 1936 where he studied at the Croydon College of Art and the Royal College of Art. He moved to Ireland in 1974 and went on to become Head of Fine Art at NCAD, as well as holding the posts of President of the Irish Contemporary Art Society, President of AICA Ireland, and International Vice President of AICA International. He was elected a Member of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2005, and elected an Honorary Member of AICA Ireland for his contribution to the Visual Arts in Ireland.
As an artist he exhibited widely and his work is in many private and public collection. Campbell had recently been hospitalized and was quite ill but always maintained his well known charm. He is survived by his wife and constant companion, the artist Jacqueline Stanley and their children. On behalf of our members and the many friends of both Campbell and Jackie, may we express our most sincere condolences at this time
